LSA Funds and Initiatives

Lutheran Services for the Aging Annual Campaign
Annual campaign funds are used to underwrite and enhance the ongoing operational needs of the organization, giving LSA the ability to apply your contribution wherever it is needed most. They may be used to pay chaplain salaries, augment nursing staff, advance staff training, enhance activities, implement innovative programming or to improve residences. These are the critical funds that enable LSA to provide quality care to over 1,000 residents and participants.

Lutheran Services for the Aging General Endowment
The LSA General Endowment was established to provide ongoing financial stability and contingency funding for the organization. Unless otherwise specified by the donor, a portion of all estate gifts is generally applied by the Board of Trustees to the general endowment. A gift to this fund provides for the future of LSA, helping to ensure that this ministry can care for many generations to come.

Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks Alzheimer's Care Capital Campaign
Fundraising continues in order to meet the capital costs of the new Alzheimer's care area of Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks. Beautifully conceived and designed, the area provides a safe, secure, state-of-the-art location for fragile older adults with Alzheimer's disease and other memory disorders. Gifts would still be appreciated until the costs of the expansion have been met by philanthropy.

Abundant Living Adult Day Services Capital Campaign
Fundraising continues in order to meet the capital costs of the new Abundant Living Adult Day Services program on South Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue. Having operated out of two tiny old parsonages for 20 years, Abundant Living has moved into a building with twice the space, more than doubling capacity. As the only adult day care in Rowan County, Abundant Living offers enrichment for participants, respite for caregivers, and an alternative to nursing home placement. Two-thirds of the participants receive financial assistance. Gifts would still be appreciated until the costs of the capital renovations have been met by philanthropy.

Lutheran Home - Winston-Salem Replacement Fund
In 2001, Lutheran Services for the Aging acquired the operation of an aging nursing home in Winston-Salem in a lease/purchase agreement. Some rooms in this facility were in such disrepair that it was not possible to make them livable through renovations. Having recently completed the purchase of the home, it is imperative that LSA relocate the residents from this aging facility to one or more new locations. Because the vast majority of residents are indigent and Medicaid dependent, this project will have tremendous benefit for the elders of Forsyth County. Gifts to assist with the building and equipping of the new home(s) are urgently needed.

Lutheran Home - Hickory West Replacement Fund
The Lutheran Home - Hickory West Replacement Fund will assist with the relocation or renovation of Lutheran Home - Hickory West. The Hickory West building requires significant updating in order to provide residents with state-of-the-art nursing care. This updating may be accomplished through extensive on-site renovations or by the purchase of a new site and construction of a new home. Planning is currently underway to determine the most efficient and effective way to proceed. Philanthropic support of this undertaking will be critical.

The Disciple's Fund
The Disciple's Fund is a benevolence fund created to subsidize costs for residents whose personal and family resources are no longer adequate to cover the cost of their care. LSA faces an increasing need to care for residents who have exhausted their resources. This can occur for all sorts of very legitimate reasons. With counseling and support from LSA, the resident's family is sometimes able to identify family sources of income that can help bridge the gap. But on other occasions, these individuals have nowhere to turn. The Disciple's Fund is inspired by the Biblical account in John 19:26-27, in which the "disciple Jesus loved" takes Mary, the mother of Jesus, into his own home.

Endowments for Staff Excellence
The purpose of these endowments is to recognize and encourage staff excellence which ultimately benefits residents. Support provided through the endowments may include underwriting/assisting with the annual staff bonus program and the longevity bonus program; providing enhanced staff training; enabling staff to participate in professional conferences and off-site training opportunities; and providing enhancements to physical locations where staff seek respite, such as staff dining areas or staff lounges. Currently there are four Endowments for Staff Excellence, including the:

Lutheran Home - Hickory Endowment for Staff Excellence
Lutheran Home - Hickory West Endowment for Staff Excellence
Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks Endowment for Staff Excellence

Lutheran Home(s) of Forsyth County Endowment for Staff Excellence,
benefiting the Lutheran Home - Winston-Salem

Chaplains Endowment
The Chaplains Endowment has been created to support the chaplaincy program at LSA. With aging may come loss or the prospect of loss: the loss of loved ones, the loss of health, and sometimes the loss of connection to church and community. The chaplains of LSA restore that connection, while bringing both comfort amd spiritual encouragement to residents, families, and staff. No distributions will be made from The Chaplains Endowment until the principle in the Endowment reaches $1 million.
